For more than 20 years, Leif Berg and his wife, Jacklin Durhuus, has arranged riding tours on Icelandic horses, driven by their mission to provide you with an unforgettable experience on an Icelandic horse in the beautiful Faroese nature with lush green valleys, imposing basalt cliffs, grand treeless moorlands and mountains, lakes and rivers.
Berg Hestar offers riding experiences lasting from an hour and a half to a full day, and difficulty from beginners to advanced riders. You can also book a riding holiday during the summer. We ride in beautiful settings in the mountains and valleys around Tórshavn, all depending on your riding level, the weather and length of the rides.
Leif is well known in the horse community in the Faroe Islands. He got his first horse, Skemming, when he was 12 years old. Leif has been competing, both in horse races and other competitions.
Leif started Berg Hestar as a hobby in 1991 with three horses. But the activity and the company grew, so the riding hall with stables was ready to use in 2001. In 2008 the house was built as well. Today, Leif and Jacklin is living with their son, Bergur – born in 2005 - in their cosy house with the fantastic view over Tórshavn city.
Jacklin entered the horse community in 2001, and has been very active since then. She has competed in many competitions and has been very active in the Faroese Icelandic Horse association.
Today the stable is full – 21 friendly, Icelandic horses greets you, when you come to say hello.
